Super Truck racing. Drift Shootouts. Sponsored by 'The Rock', that is what's on the menu for Easter Saturday the 3rd of April at Powerbuilt Tools Raceway. All of the action is focused on the 1.31km ‘A’ track and dipper with the Super trucks hitting the limiter [ 160kmph] before jamming on the anchors to drift off the main straight into the esses, a mouth-watering prospect indeed. The action is all about 1000hp - 1500hp behemoths belching black smoke and monstering all around them, drivers with smiles a mile wide and a passionate bunch of fans who absolutely love this sort of stuff.
Kane Scott is commissioned to drive the green machine and golden oldie Malcolm Little will be a threat with his hormone injected beast. Troy Wheeler’s truck is ex Denny Hulme and he is an experienced peddler in his own right and Terry McGee is an ex speedway champion and should be competitive in his Mack Vision E7 4 valve poking 1075hp to the back wheels. Shane Gray too is an aggressive ex stock car racer whose truck might be considered the pin up bling king, plenty of chrome and polish.
Baby truck racer Ashley Hay, just 22 years old is nearing the end of his mechanical apprenticeship so is racing on a shoe string. Competing is everything so here he is doing the best he can in his 1000hp Cummins International. The ex Johnny Hepburn truck powered by a supercharged Detroit diesel twin turbo produces 1050hp is driven by relative newcomer Peter Tangney while Darren Thompson has fitted a Western Star body to a Bedford chassis running a Detroit diesel and guarantees to provide plenty of action.
What better way to compliment the larger than life smoke, power and noise of the super trucks than to have the tyre squealing antics of the South Islands best Drifters battling it out in a no holds barred shootout for the Powerbuilt Drift Yakuza title. No qualifying, no mucking around, straight into the action. 16 of the best in seeded battles will have you on the edge of your picnic chair. If you want to see where Drift has come in 5 short years, come along and admire the skills inspired by Fast and Furious.
The Super Truck and Drift Shootout - Saturday 3 April from 10am - Entry $20 Children under 12 Free.
